Reimagined horror franchise grabs the top spot on Friday

Friday night was a dream for New Line Cinema and its latest franchise horror pic, “A Nightmare on Elm Street.”

The R-rated reboot grabbed the No. 1 spot at the box office with an estimate of $15.9 million at 3,332 locations, far outpacing any other films in the top 10. The estimated figure for the reimagined film includes numbers from Thursday night’s midnight showings, which account for roughly $1.6 million in ticket sales.
