Unstoppable Movie Review [oas.co - 4.5/5]
Review by abc
UNSTOPPABLE is a no-nonsense nail-biter from the very proficient director Tony Scott and stars his favourite actor, DENZEL WASHINGTON, as a veteran freight train driver. Washington’s co-star is the amiable CHRIS PINE, who plays a rookie resented at first some the older rail workers.
Their routine work is brutally interrupted by a ‘coaster’, a runaway train, carrying hazardous material, which must be stopped before it reaches a heavily populated area.

Stripped of all pretence, this true story of valiant derring-do is a raucously entertaining action movie. Mercifully, Scott and Washington, working together for the umpteenth time, allow it to play out like a B-movie, clearly having fun with all of the heroics.
On one fateful day, veteran engineer Frank (Washington) and rookie Will (Pine) head out onto the tracks in rural Pennsylvania. They soon learn that chuckleheads (Suplee and Miller) at the other end of the line have let a half-mile-long freight train run loose on a head-on collision course. And it’s loaded with toxic chemicals. And heading for a dangerous curve in a populated area.

Tony Scott’s runaway train thriller deserves to pick up its share of punters. Scott and his long-term collaborator Denzel Washington have found themselves a (mostly) shrewd script that reworks a real incident from 2001 and makes it relevant to an America still reeling from economic meltdown and the BP oil spill. Frank (Washington) is the washed-up conductor of train 1206, forced to show the ropes to a well-connected rookie, Will (Chris Pine), whose very inexperience makes him desirable to the bosses — he comes cheap.
