Big Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son Movie Review (1/5)

It’s been said that there comes a critical moment in every African-American comedian’s career when he’s asked to put on a dress. Among those who’ve succumbed to that subtle pressure over the years are Flip Wilson (TV’s Geraldine), Jaime Foxx (TV’s Wanda), Marlon and Shawn Wayans (White Chicks), Eddie Murphy (Norbit and The Nutty Professor 1 & 2), Tyler Perry (Madea), and of course, Martin Lawrence (The Big Momma trilogy).

An FBI agent and his son go undercover as women. With Martin Lawrence, Brandon T. Jackson. Director: John Whitesell (1:47). PG-13: sexual humor, violence. At area theaters.
The most disturbing image in “Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son” isn’t the vision of Martin Lawrence’s 300-pound granny in the nude. It’s the sight of Brandon T. Jackson following in Lawrence’s high-heeled footsteps.

Some ‘threequels’ like ‘Toy Story 3,’ The Bourne Ultimatum,’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King’ are films that audiences couldn’t wait to see.
I don’t think anyone was waiting for Martin Lawrence to come back as Big Momma in ‘Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son,’ ‘the third installment of the ‘Big Momma’ franchise.
While the addition of rising star Brandon T. Jackson may bring out the youth, and add some flavor to the film, ‘BM:LF,LS’ is pretty thin on the comedy. A few chuckles doesn’t justify the return of an aging character, whose make-up has already lost its appeal. It’s time to put away the fat suit.
