American: The Bill Hicks Story Movie Trailer
Synopsis
Seventeen years after his death, Bill Hicks has taken a permanent place in the cultural landscape and is widely recognized as one of the greatest American comedians of the modern era. Described as many things – philosopher, social satirist, even preacher – Hicks was ultimately a performer who, for many, changed what comedy could be. He believed that comedy played a vital role in any free and just society, and that the comedian, a free spirit detached from political or corporate agendas, was able to voice what others wouldn’t, challenging convention and presenting ideas that would stimulate the minds of the audiences. Hicks had no difficulty making people laugh- but what he really wanted to do was make them think. His life tragically cut short at the age of 32, Hicks’ timeless material lives on, revered today by both comedians (many who cite him as an influence) and fans alike. Hicks’ remarkable journey is brought to life in the documentary feature AMERICAN: THE BILL HICKS STORY. Combining revealing new interviews from those who knew him best with a bold new photographic animation technique, AMERICAN takes the audience inside Hicks’ unfolding life story using archival footage and animated photographs, many from Hicks’ personal collection and previously unseen. It’s a film that innovates, inspires, and outrages- while being funny as hell in the process.
What wiki says about Bill Hicks:
William Melvin “Bill” Hicks (December 16, 1961 – February 26, 1994) was an American stand-up comedian, social critic, satirist and musician. His humor challenged mainstream beliefs, aiming to “enlighten people to think for themselves.” Hicks used a ribald approach to express his material, describing himself as “Chomsky with dick jokes”, while conceding that his humor was “caring”. His material largely consisted of general discussions about society, religion, politics, philosophy and personal issues. Hicks’ material was often controversial and steeped in dark comedy. In both his stand-up performances and during interviews, he often criticized consumerism, superficiality, mediocrity and banality within the media and popular culture, describing them as oppressive tools of the ruling class, meant to “keep people stupid and apathetic.”
What i say about Bill Hicks: This man is a legend. People like him are not born everyday. He was right about criticizing consumerism, superficiality, mediocrity and banality because that’s what these big companies do, they just want to keep people stupid and apathetic. And the reason behind it; is the money. I know this is an entertainment blog and these words are little different but to hell with it. I’ll write whatever i like. This is my blog, If you like it than you are welcome
