If there’s one thing the fighting game gurus at Capcom love to do, it’s team up with other developers. Crossovers have been Capcom’s bread and butter for years now, be it through the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise or even less traditional fare like Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. However, it’s rare that one of their crossovers gets quite as specific as Street Fighter X Tekken, which teams up their roster of classic Street Fighter characters with those from Namco Bandai’s flagship fighting franchise, Tekken, and manages to add in some truly unique features along the way.

Street Fighter X Tekken is a 2D fighter with two-on-two combat. Each side is in control of two fighters and can swap between them on the fly. Players can even team up cooperatively and fight on the same team, just like in last year’s Mortal Kombat. This means up to four players can take part in a fight. However, when one fighter on a team is knocked out, that team loses the round–regardless of how much health the remaining fighter has. Therefore, you must treat your two fighters as one unit. There are numerous ways to switch between your fighters, and mastering good synergy between them is the key to building devastating combos and winning matches.

The long-awaited crossover title ultimately falls short of the expectations for it, but Street Fighter X Tekken manages to deliver a fun, fast-paced fighting game experience nonetheless.

When Capcom and Namco announced there would be two crossover titles for the fighting world’s biggest franchises, the fighting game community whipped into a frenzy of speculation, demands and wishes. The included characters, the gameplay style and possible new features were surging through the community’s mind and speculated about for months. The answers are finally here.
