ABC Pulls The Assets after two Episodes, What’s Next?
An all new show to look forward to on ABC! The latest news informs that ABC has pulled the plug on troubled eight-hour mini-series The Assets after two very low airings. It will be replaced by Shark Tank repeats in the Thursday 10 PM hour for the next three weeks. As informed The Assets started off with a dismal 0.7 rating for its premiere last Thursday and managed to fall even lower last night, to a 0.6, which is among the lowest rating for an hour-long original on the Big 4 networks this season.
The British-produced take on the CIA investigation that led to the discovery of mole Aldrich Ames was always intended as an eight episode limited series, so it doesn’t get to be in the discussion for the lowest-rated in-season dramas in network history, but its two airing certainly lowered some bar.
Show which centers on 1980s CIA Cold War culture, is produced by Morgan Hertzan, Rudy Bednar and Andrew Chapman. Assets is based on the book “Circle of Treason: A CIA Account of Traitor Aldrich Ames and the Men He Betrayed by vet CIA officers Sandra Grimes and Jeanne Vertefeuille. There has been renewed interest in the Cold War on the small screen, with FX’s new drama The Americans among projects that explore the high stakes spying games between the US and the Soviet Union.
