Selena Quintanilla

Netflix is making a series on featuring the life of the late legendary Tejano music singer Selena Quintanilla. The streaming giant will be teaming up with Selena’s family members.

They have released the teaser with title name, Selena: The Series. It will be based on a coming-of-age story of Selena. Netflix released the teaser a few hours ago. It’s 16 seconds long and only has text. First, they show the famous song’s title by Selena, named Bidi Bidi Bom Bom followed by the series’ title.

No release or premiere date has been announced yet. And information about the length and counts of episodes is also kept hidden.

A scriptwriter for the series is on board, and he is also one of the executive producers, Moisés Zamora. Other producers on board are Campanario Entertainment’s president Jaime Davila, Rico Martinez, Suzette Quintanilla (Selena’s sister), Selena’s father Abraham Quintanilla Jr. and Simran A. Singh.

Netflix shared some words from Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla in their press release. Here’s what she said.

“Selena will always have a lasting place in music history and we feel great responsibility to do justice to her memory. With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives.
We are excited to partner with Campanario and Netflix to give fans a never-before-seen glimpse at our story and highlight why Selena will remain a legend for generations to come.”

And here’s what the president of Campanario Entertainment, Jaime Dávila said to Netflix.

Selena and the entire Quintanilla family are an inspiration to many and especially to me, a millennial of the same heritage. Selena’s career achievements are legendary, but our scripted series will focus on the incredible story of a Mexican-American family and how an extraordinary young woman transcended categories and borders to become a global star. I can’t imagine a better partner than Netflix to celebrate Selena and her family’s lives.

Here’s the small teaser of Selena: The Series released by Netflix.

Who was Selena?

Selena Quintanilla was a person of multiple talents that includes an American singer, songwriter, spokesperson, model, actress, and a fashion designer and she was born on April 16, 1971.

She was a star of the late 20th century and her music broken the Mexican-American boundaries and inspired a generation. She was assassinated and died at a very early stage. She was just 23 years old when she died.

The major news channels stopped their regular programs and did a breaking news story about her untimely and unfortunate death on March 31, 1995. It is said that her assassination made a huge and similar impact following the deaths of musicians John Lennon, Elvis Presley, and U.S. president John F. Kennedy.

Here Bidi Bidi Bom Bom title track was released in 1994 and was uploaded on YouTube on Feb. 25,  2009. It has more than 71 million views and over 16,000 comments till now.

One more thing that makes Selena a special person is the following. During her living time, she did a lot of work for various charities. She would go to schools and encourage children to study and suggest to stay away from alcohol and drugs.

What do People Think About This Series and Selena

Her fans just love the singer dearly. Here are few of the comments under her Bidi Bidi Bom Bom video.

JLo played Selena in a movie based on her life released in 1997 and people loved her role and believed that she did justice to her role.
A YouTube user named jjs490 posted the following on the community.
Jay Lo, was incredible as Selena. She made people fall in love with Selena. I think it was a powerful movie and a power portrayal of her family the ups and downs of family life especially in the entertainment business. The guy who played her father well-known Latino actor, I forget his name now but he was fantastic. The movie really portrayed how fathers are so important to daughters especially in that type of situation where she was groomed by her dad to be a singer and he really Believed in her which was so so important. It was emotional me Im sure for many many people also . Jay Lo hit a grand slam with her portrayal !

What Do I Think (My Honest Opinion)?

I think a series on Selena could inspire the new generation and especially teenagers can learn a lot from her inspirational life. She has broken the boundaries between American-Mexican audience and joined two nations with her music.

Not a lot of artists can achieve that, but Selena did in her short life. And that’s one of the many reasons why she’s called a legend. So, I am looking forward to seeing her series.

If I would say, Selena Quintallina was one of the angels arrived on earth, then I would not be wrong. I mean singers like Jennifer Lopez gives tributes to Selena at biggest events. She was and still is truly an inspiration for the music industry and people.

Like I said before, her series will inspire the new generation. My only wish is that Netflix does justice to her character.
